Only the Boston Bruins, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League have played continuously in the same city with the same name longer than the Fort Wayne Komets. The Komets won IHL championships in 1963, 1965, 1973, and 1993. They won a UHL championship in 2003. They won more IHL championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010. They won a CHL championship in 2012. They finally won an ECHL championship in 2021. The Komets are a historic team. The Fort Wayne Komets are currently the ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL and the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL. The Fort Wayne Komets were affiliated with the Vegas Golden Knights from 2018 to 2022.
