The Vegas Golden Knights officially began preparing for the 2026-27 season when training camp opened on Thursday, September 17th, 2026. Just two days later, Vegas got its first opportunity to get back into game action as the Golden Knights opened the preseason against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, September 19. The matchup took place at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, home of the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. For the Golden Knights, it was their first game since June 14th and their only game of the week as they began the long road toward the regular season.
Vegas wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Viliam Kmec, who spent last season with the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL, scored the game’s opening goal, while Raphael Lavoie added the second. Lavoie also spent most of last season with Henderson, making both goals a nice early showcase for players looking to make an impression during training camp and the preseason. The Kings responded in the second period, with Andre Lee cutting into Vegas lead early in the frame. Lee spent most of last season with the Ontario Reign, making his goal against the Golden Knights come on his familiar home ice. Los Angeles eventually erased the deficit altogether when Lane Pederson tied the game midway through the third period. Pederson spent last season with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. The Golden Knights, however, quickly answered back. Shortly after the Kings tied the game, Jackson Hallum put Vegas back in front. Hallum spent last season with the Henderson Silver Knights and continued his strong night by scoring again late in the game to seal a 4-2 victory for the Golden Knights. While it is only preseason hockey, Vegas couldn’t have asked for a much better way to begin its 2026-27 exhibition schedule. The Golden Knights showed some offensive depth, battled through a game that eventually became tied, and finished strong to secure their first win of the preseason.
