On Saturday, July 24th, 2026, the Tahoe Knight Monsters announced a color change. The change is from teal to blue. There was not an official reason given for the change. Removing teal from the color scheme separates the Tahoe Knight Monsters from the San Jose Sharks. The response to this change has been mostly negative. The Tahoe had unique colors. I do not think there was another pro hockey team in North America with teal and gold. Lots of teams have blue and gold. The Tahoe Knight Monsters are not one of 20 teams that have blue in their colors. The Tahoe Knight Monsters no longer stand out with their colors. The response has been mostly negative. Hockey fans are all about tradition. Changing the colors after just two seasons without a strong reason has disappointed a lot of fans. There is a campaign going on called “Keep Tahoe Teal”. Over half the fanbase are San Jose Sharks fans. That is just due to location. I think it would be more accepted if it were a color change that aligned with an affiliation change. I think that ECHL teams are separated enough from the NHL that they should be unique. Having 20 teams with blue is an issue. There are enough colors in the world that this should not be the case. The Knight Monsters’ colors themselves are kind of poor. The two blues are too close in tone. A darker blue would probably have worked better. The colors could have matched Keep Tahoe Blue, the Nevada Wolf Pack, or the Nevada State flag. Instead, they seem to be obscure representations of Lake Tahoe itself. Lake Tahoe itself is more teal than these blue colors. Red, white, and blue would be solid representations for Lake Tahoe. The United States won its first gold medal in ice hockey at the Olympics in Tahoe in 1960. I am not sure why the Tahoe Knight Monsters do not embrace a brand closer to the Vegas Golden Knights. Replace the red with bronze. Then Vegas would be gold, Henderson would be silver, and Tahoe would be bronze. That would embrace the medieval fantasy nature of the team names. The Tahoe Knight Monsters also got new jerseys for this season. The black jersey is the same. The difference is that teal was replaced with blue. The white jersey is the same way. The Knight Monsters also have an all-new blue jersey. I always thought the Tahoe Knight Monsters should use the Vegas Golden Knights jersey template like the Henderson Silver Knights do. I think a teal Vegas Golden Knights jersey would have sold extremely well. I also think a jersey that only says Tahoe on it would also sell very well. The colors are also almost identical to the colors used by the Tahoe Icemen, who played in the Western States Hockey League.
