On September 29, 2020, the governor of Nevada changed the rules regarding gatherings. In doing that he allowed fans to return to sporting events. The announcement came too late for fans to attend Reno 1868 FC’s last home match where they hosted Las Vegas Lights FC.
From what I Understand Greater Nevada Field applied to have 700 fans at the game almost immediately. As of writing this, that plan has still not been approved. I think their plan hasn’t been approved because of bureaucracy. They have to get the plan approved by the state, county, and city who all have different regulations regarding gatherings. On top of that, there could be a massive number of plans being submitted. Everyone in the county who has a venue that qualifies to hold more than 250 people has probably not only submitted a plan but probably has had a plan ready for months. I also don’t know if our state, county, or city government is prepared to look into a large number of submitted plans in a timely manner. They might have less than fifty people looking at thousands of plans. It might be like going to the DMV with five thousand people all at once with only two or three people who can help. The point is bureaucracy is slow and there a million reasons for it being that way.
The good news is that there will be at least 250 fans in attendance. Under the current guidelines, Greater Nevada Field does not need to be approved to have 250 fans.
For their submitted plan, Greater Nevada Field would be sectioned off into 3 or 4 sections. The different sections will be accessed through three different gates. I think each section is made up of 5 seated sections, a concessions stand, and a gate. Each seated section will have an empty section in between. Every other row will be taped off. Fans will also not be allowed to loiter on the concourse. It’s pretty much to sit in your assigned seat and stay there.
- Face coverings will be required
- Temperature checks
- Health questionnaire
- Concessions will be limited
- Greater Nevada Field will be cashless
- Clear bag policy
- Fans wont be allowed to gather
- Fans may be given assign seats for places other than where their season tickets are
- No smoking

The plan for the reduced number of fans is simple. It’s all the same protocols, procedures, and restrictions except only one section of Greater Nevada Field will be open. All of the other sections will remain closed until their plan is approved. This is what I expect to happen on Saturday. Their plan would have to be approved by something like 5 pm tomorrow for them to host more than 250 fans. I don’t see that happening. After the emails that were sent out today, I think they are planning on having the reduced number of fans.
The rumor was that only season ticket holders would be let in. They did ask all of the season ticket holders. They also said they were going to do a ticket lottery to choose who got tickets. Who got tickets was random. I think that a ticket lottery is a bad idea. I don’t know if they followed through with that as they did announce that they will have a waiting list for people who want to get in as well.
What do you think about this? How do you feel about the new regulations? How do feel about a ticket lottery? Please Let me know.
