Game Preview: Reno Pond Hockey VS Cobras and Mighty Bucks

On March 18, 2020, the Sierra Inline Hockey League halted their season due to COVID-19. In October 2021 the SIHL brought the league back. Reno Pond Hockey decided to join the league. The league was delayed from their original start date. They had a preseason tournament last weekend. The league starts play for the first time since 2020 this weekend. In what I an dubbing Opening Day. The league will resume with 5 teams, Cobras, M&Ms, the Mighty Bucks, Reno Pond Hockey and The Vets. There is not a complete schedule yet. The current schedule is through the 29th.

Reno Pond Hockey will start the season off with back to back games. The first one will be against the Cobras at 1:00 PM. The second game will be against the Mighty Bucks at 3:00 PM. The Reno Pond Hockey inline team is different then the ice team. The inline roster is made up of mostly Reno Pond Hockey ice team players with a few new additions just for the inline team. This will be the first two games for the Reno Pond Hockey inline team. They have practiced together and a few of the players played in the preseason tournament. Most of them have played together before on the ice team. There will be a little bit of a learning curve in the first two games, but there is some good talent on this roster. With only 5 teams in the league Reno Pond Hockey is going to develop some good rivalries playing teams multiple times. If there is only a 4 team playoff, there is a good chance Reno Pond Hockey will make the playoffs.

This will be Reno Pond Hockeys first ever inline game. Going into this a lot of the players are still getting over the learning curve of going from ice to inline. It will also be the first time the team has played twice in the same day. Not much is expected in the first game since it is their first inline game ever. Going into the second game and moving forward the team will know what they need to do to improve and win. The good thing about having games close together is that it is a lot easier to implement changes as the last game is still fresh in everyones head.

The Cobras. Reno Pond Hockey faces the Cobras for game one. It will be both teams first game of the season. It will be the opening game of the season for the SIHL. I don’t have much information on the Cobras. If we did have information on them from the last season in 2020 it would be too old to go off of.

I don’t know much about the Might Bucks either. I did scout a couple of their players at a pickup game. I do not know how good they are. They have been playing together for a while. If I am not mistaken they are the Murder Hornets in the Reno Ice Adult League. I could be wrong about that or maybe some of their players play for both teams.
