We are now eight days into the XXIV Olympic Winter Games being held in Beijing China. Alpine Skiing, Curling, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track Speed Skating, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, and Snowboarding took place. Medals were handed out for Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track Speed Skating, S and Snowboarding.
In Alpine Skiing they had the Women’s Slalom. Slovakias Petra Vlhova won gold. Austrias Katharina Liensberger won silver. Switzerlands Wendy Holdener won bronze. The United States came in 8th, 26th, 34th, and DNF. Alpine Skiing continues tonight.

Curling started the Mens Round Robin. Both the United States and Canada won their first matches. Canada currently sits on top of the standings. Curling continues tonight.


Freestyle Skiing had the Men’s Big Air Competition. Norways Birk Ruud won gold. The United States Colby Stevenson won silver. Swedens Henrik Harlaut won bronze. The United States also came in 8th and 11th. Freestyle skiing continues tonight in the AM.


The Men’s Ice Hockey tournament started. ROC (Russia) played Switzerland. Czech Republic played Denmark. Both games were close. I will go more in depth on this in a later post. The United States and Canada have their first games coming up at 5am.

Luge continued with the Doubles Run competition. Germany won gold and silver. Austria won silver. The United States came in 11th and was only behind by about 2 seconds. Luge has their final event coming up at 5:30am.

The Nordic Combined had the Individual Gundersen Normal Hill/10km, Cross-Country competition. Germanys Vinzenz Geiger won gold. Norways Joergen Graabak won silver. Austrias Lukas Greiderer won bronze. The United States finished 15th, 19th, 24th, and 25th. Nordic Combined continues on the 11th.

In Short Track Speed Skating they had the Men’s 1500m competition. Republic of Koreas Daeheon Hwang won gold. Canadas Steven Dubois won silver. ROC (Russia) Semen Elistratov won bronze. Short Track Speed Skating continues on the 11th.


In the Skeleton they did more training heats. The Skeleton will continue tonight.

Ski Jumping did some training runs. Ski Jumping will continue in the AM.

A lot of stuff happened in Snowboarding. Shaun White announced he will be retiring after this olympics. Women’s Halfpipe Qualification happened. Men’s Halfpipe Qualification happened. Women’s Snowboard Cross happened. Snowboard Cross is one of my favorite events. It reminds me of the video game SSX. I think they should add Ice Cross into the olympics.
In the Men’s Halfpipe Shaun White almost didn’t make the final. He had to use his second run to qualify. In Women’s Snowboard Cross the United States won their first gold. The United Sates Lindsey Jacobellis won gold. Frances Chole Trespeuch won silver. Canadas Meryeta Odine won bronze. Snowboarding continues tonight.

Germany is now in the lead with 5 gold medals. Norway is in second with 4. Sweden has dropped to third with 4 gold medals. The United States finally has a gold medal. They crack the top ten at tenth with 1 gold medal. Canada moves into twelfth with only one gold medal.
ROC (Russia) still leads the overall with 11 medals. Norway and Austria are tied for second with 10 medals. Canada is tied for fourth with 8 medals. The United States is tied for sixth with 7 medals.
The United States has 7 total medals. 1 gold. 5 silver. 1 bronze. Canada has 8 total medals. 1 gold. 2 silver. 5 bronze.
