The Professional Women’s Hockey League finished their inaugural season on May 29th. PWHL Minnesota won the 2024 PWHL Championship. PWHL Minnesota defeated PWHL Boston in a best of five game series to win the Walter Cup. I did do a concept for the PWHL Finals. This concept was more challenging then some of the other concepts I have done for championship games. None of the PWHL teams currently have logos or team names yet. That did present a slight challenge. This post will be like my 2024 IIHF World Juniors Concept, 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Concept, and my 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship Concept.

The PWHL playoffs logo has the Walter Cup, the PWHL secondary logo, Playoffs and the year. It is not a bad logo. With the American Hockey League and the ECHL having new playoff logos reminiscent of the Stanley Cup Playoffs logo, it is nice to see the PWHL going with a different direction with their playoff logo. The PWHL Finals were between PWHL Boston and PWHL Minnesota. PWHL Boston play at the 6,500 Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. The Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell hosts the UMass Lowell River Hawks ice hockey and basketball teams and the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League. The venue used to host the former AHL teams Lowell Lock Monsters and the Lowell Devils. The venue hosted AHL hockey from 1998 to 2010. PWHL Minnesota play at the 17,954 Xcel Energy Center. The Xcel Energy Center is home to the Minnesota Wild of the NHL.

I kept the colors that were used on their jerseys this past season. For PWHL Boston they have green, grey, and white as their colors. I gave them a roudel logo. The logo is a circle which is a nod to the Boston Bruins of the NHL. The gothic style B in the middle is a nod to the Boston Red Sox. The B of course is for Boston. The teams current name, PWHL Boston is on the logo. It is in a font that is a nod to the Boston Celtics. 2024 is on the logo because that is their founding year. The PWHL Minnesota colors are purple and black. Their logo is an M with a star. The logo is inspired by the Minnesota North Stars logo The design is also inspired by the Minnesota Wild script logo.

Both teams got two jerseys for this concept. Both teams got a dark jersey for home games and a white jersey for away games. The jerseys also have the logo on the front of their home jerseys and a wordmark on their away jerseys. For this concept the idea of having the logo on the home jersey and the wordmark on the away jersey would be implemented league wide. Having the PWHL logo on the right shoulder and collar would also be implemented league wide. The left shoulder would be reserved for sponsor logos. This would give the league some kind of uniformity like what we saw in the first season. PWHL Boston have a green, grey, and white Home jersey. On the front is their logo and the PWHL playoff patch. The PWHL Boston has a white, green, and grey Away jersey. The Away jersey has a “Boston” wordmark logo on the front and the PWHL Playoff patch. PWHL Minnesota have a purple, black, and white Home jersey. On the front is the PWHL Minnesota logo and the PWHL Playoff logo. The PWHL Minnesota Away jersey is white, purple, and black. A “Minnesota” wordmark logo and the PWHL Playoff patch are on the front of the PWHL Minnesota Away jersey. The PWHL Minnesota jerseys are slightly different to accommodate for the wordmark logo.
PWHL Boston would have worn their green Home jersey in game one, game two, and game five. PWHL Minnesota would have worn their White Away Jersey in game one, game two, and game five. PWHL Boston would have worn their white Away jersey in game three and four. PWHL Minnesota would have worn their purple Home jerseys in game three and game four.
