SIHL Post Game Report: Reno Pond Hockey VS Cobras

For week four of the Sierra Inline Hockey League, Reno Pond Hockey took on Cobras. It was game five for Reno Pond Hockey. The game was on February, 12th 2022 at 3:00 PM. The game took place at the home of the SIHL, the Marv Teixeira Pavilion.

This game marked half way through the season. Reno Pond Hockey was still last in the standings. Reno Pond Hockey were still looking for their first win. Reno Pond Hockey were the only team without a win. Reno Pond Hockey lost to 1 to 3 against M&Ms in their last game. The Cobras were third in the standings. The Cobras were coming off of a 7-3 loss. The all time record heading into this game between Reno Pond Hockey and the Cobras was 0-1-0. Cobras won 5-3 in the last game between Reno Pond Hockey and the Cobras.

Reno Pond Hockey scored first. The Cobras were able to tie the game. The score was 2-1 Cobras after the first half. Reno Pond Hockey tied the game. The Cobras managed to get up 3-2. Reno Pond Hockey scored 2 unanswered goals to get the lead. With under 2 minutes to go the Cobras called a time out. At that point Reno Pond Hockey was comfortably playing in their own zone. The Cobras had only one or two scoring chances in the final 1 minute 30 seconds of play. Reno Pond Hockey had a two man break away in the last minute. The shot went off the post. The final score was a 4-3 Reno Pond Hockey win.

Reno Pond Hockey finally got a win. It was bound to come. Getting over that hump is huge moving forward. Towards the end of the game Reno Pond Hockey was playing really good defense. They covered the top players. They didn’t let the Cobras get any good scoring chances. They were tying up players in front of the net. They were challenging for the puck. They weren’t letting them get any solid passes in front of the net. They weren’t letting any of the shots or passes go unchallenged. It was a really solid minutes of play from Reno Pond Hockey at the end of the game. Getting that two man break away a reward for hard work. It’s just unlucky that it hit the post.
