The 2024 National Hockey League Winter Classic will be in Seattle Washington. The National Hockey League announced that back in January. In the build up to this the Vegas Golden Knights announced they would be using a completely new logo. This would be their first new logo release since they released their 2022/23 Reverse Retro jersey. This will be only the second time they have released a new logo (that wasn’t a jersey patch or warm up jersey) since their original logo’s were release in November of 2016. The Seattle Kraken have not said much about their plans for a logo.

The logo for the 2024 NHL Winter Classic was revealed back in June. The logo is very Seattle and has a strong nautical theme which isn’t seen too much in the NHL. I think the Hartford Whalers would have played really well with a bit more nautical theming and maybe they would have if they stuck around. It’s a really well done logo. The NHL has never had a bad Winter Classic logo. The art style since the 2010 Winter Classic in Boston has been consistant. The one I am the most emotionally attached to is the 2008 logo because I remember watching the game and watching the Pittsburgh Penguins win. As a kid it was one of those moments that made me fall in love with hockey again. The 2011, 2019, and 2023 logo’s are all some of my top picks.

My favorite one though has to be 2020 Winter Classic logo. I really like the belt buckle logo. I was blown away when it was revealed. Coming from Bakersfield and living in Arizona, Sacramento, and Reno theres a lot of corn bread and chicken. The western theming really resinated with me. A lot of the element’s felt familiar to me in a way that none of the other Winter Classic’s really have. I get it was supposed to be representing Texas but when you get down to it general western theming can be applied to majority of the United States. Anyway back to Seattle.

Two logos leaked thanks to Sin Bin Vegas images of the possible logos for Seattle and Vegas have released. The Vegas logo is a V. The Seattle logo is an S with Seattle in it. This is what I expected from both creative teams. Vegas to have a V and Seattle to have something reminiscent of the Seattle Metropolitans logo. From the leaked images it is hard to tell what is going on with the Vegas logo besides that it is a V. It is hard to tell if the leaks are legitimate. Leaks like this turn out to be fake all time. There is also no way to tell if the leaked images are the final logos or are place holder logos or are just hat designs and will not be featured on the uniforms. Only time will tell though.

Since the 2024 NHL Winter Classic was announced it has been on backlog of concepts. My thought on the event logo was to theme it towards the 1960’s because of the World Fair that was held in Seattle in 1960. More modernism and less nautical. Something that would have been reminiscent of the NHL in the 60’s. Like what if Vegas was an expansion team in 1967 and Seattle had never left? Vegas was going to get a V logo. Seattle was going to get an updated Seattle Metropolitans logo. I am still going to do this concept at some point but that was just some of my thoughts and how I would do things.
