Reno Ice Adult League Playoff Format Announced

In an email last Friday, Reno Ice explained what the playoffs for the summer 2021 season will look like.

In the A Division (A-League) 4 of the 6 teams will make the playoffs. The first game will be the first place team verses the fourth place team. That game will be on Saturday August 21st at 2:45pm. The second game will be the second place team verses the third place team. That game will be on Saturday August 21st at 4:15pm. The winners of these two games will advance to the finals. The finals game will take place on Sunday August 22nd at 8:15pm. In the B Division (B-League) 8 of the 16 teams will qualify. The B-League playoffs start Wednesday August 18th at 9:15pm. the first game will be between the first place team and the eighth place team. After that game the second place team will take on the seventh place team. That game will be at 10:45pm immediately following the previous playoff game. On Friday August 20th the third place team will play the sixth place team at 8:45pm. At 10:15pm the fourth place team will play the fifth place team. The winners will advance to the semi-finals. The semi finals will take place on Saturday August 21st at 5:45pm and 8:45pm. The winners will advance to the finals. The finals will take place on Sunday August 22nd at 6:45pm.

In the C Division (C-League) 4 of the 5 teams will qualify. The semi-finals will be on Tuesday August 17th. The first game will be the first place team verses the fourth place team. That game will be at 9:00pm. The second game will be the second place team verses the third place team. That game will be at 10:30pm. The winners will advance to the finals. The finals will be on Sunday August 22nd at 5:15pm.

Just for clarification these playoffs will be single elimination. There will not be consulation games. The season will be over for the teams that do not make the playoffs. The season will also be over for teams eliminated in the playoffs.

Personally I think this is fine. I would have liked to see something closer to what I did in my concept here. This is still the first season. There isn’t a lot of ice time right now. At least as I am aware. I think they will add consolation games in the future or teams who don’t make the playoffs may just come up with their own post season outside of the league.
