Next up in my American Hockey League concept series is the Hershey Bears. They are the primary affiliate of the Washington Capitals. They play in the 10,500-capacity Giant Center. Hershey is two hours away from Washington DC. Hershey has a population of 13,858. Hershey may also be the only team in an unincorporated community. The Hershey Bears were founded in 1932.

For this concept, the Hershey Bears play in the AHL’s World Division in the Eastern Conference. The other teams in the World Division are the Bridgeport Islanders, the Chicago Wolves, the Cleveland Monsters, the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Utica Comets, and the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.

The first Hershey Bears alternate logo is a bear head. Their secon alternate logo is a circle with a bear paw. Their third alternate logo is a circle with “HB” for Hershey Bears inside of it. Their fourth alternate logo is the bear and hockey stick from their primary logo. Their last alternate logo is a “Hershey” wordmark logo. I think the Hershey Bears have always done a great job with their branding.

The Retro jersey is inspired by the Hershey Bears 1987-88 jerseys. They did win the Calder Cup (AHL Championship) that season. The Jersey is in their retro colors. On the front is a “Hershey” wordmark logo. On the collar is “EST. 1932” for when the team was founded.

The City jersey is chocolate, tan, and cocoa. On the front is their alternate “Hershey” wordmark logo. On the shoulders is their alternate HB logo. On the collar is “EST. 1903” for when Hershey pennsylvania was founded.

The Affiliate Remix jersey is white, blue, and red. It is inspired by the Washington Capitals away jersey. On the front is the Hershey bears primary logo in the Washington Capitals colors. On the shoulders are the Washington Capitals alternate logo. On the collar is “ALL CAPS” which is the Washington Capitals motto.

The Bears have six Heritage jerseys. The Richmond Robins (1974-76), the Baltimore Clippers (1975-76), the Springfield Indians (1976-77), the Binghamton Whalers (1984-88), the Baltimore Skipjacks (1988-93), and the Portland Pirates (1993-05). The Heritage jerseys are inspired by the Washington Capitals former primary affiliates. The Hershey Bears are their only former affiliate and now current affiliate still in the AHL. The Fort Wayne Komets were the Capitals affiliate twice in the IHL. The Fort Wayne Komets now play in the ECHL.
