Next up in my American Hockey League Concept is the AHL Outdoors Boston event. The 2023 National Hockey League Winter Classic was at Fenway Park. The game was played between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. AHL Outdoors is a series of events in this concept where the AHL affiliates of NHL teams play in the same outdoor venues. For AHL Outdoors Boston, the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins affiliate) and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins affiliate) play outdoors at Fenway Park. The game would have taken place on January 1st, 2023. The day before the NHL 2023 Winter Classic.
The logo is based on the NHL 2023 Winter Classic logo. It is different. There is no sponsor logo on this one. Some of the other elements are moved around. It has the same colors. It also uses a script font.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins logo is an old english style P. It is based on the Pittsburgh Hornets (AHL/IHL 1936-1967) logo. Their whole style is based on the Pittsburgh Hornets for this event. The Providence Bruins logo is a rooster inside of a circle with the team name. It is the Providence Reds (AHL 1926-1977) logo. Their whole style is based on the 1955-56 Providence Reds.
The jerseys are inspired by the Providence Reds and Pittsburgh Hornets respectively. The Providence Bruins jersey is based on the 1955-56 Providence Reds jersey. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins jersey is based on the 1950’s Pittsburgh Hornets jersey. Both jerseys have numbers on the front with logos on the sleeves. The event logo is on the shoulders. On the collar is the date of the game.
Fenway Park is the location of AHL Outdoors Boston and the NHL 2023 Winter Classic. It also hosts other outdoor hockey events. The 37,755-capacity stadium is home to the Boston Red Sox. For this concept, not much of the branding would change from the NHL 2023 Winter Classic branding. The location of the team logos on the field might change and the scoreboard would be the only areas to use the AHL Outdoors Boston branding.
