Next up in my American Hockey League concept series is the Hartford Wolf Pack. They are the primary affiliate of the New York Rangers. They play in the 16,294-capacity XL Center. The Hartford Whalers of the NHL used to play there before they relocated to Carolina. Hartford is two hours away from New York. Hartford has a population of 120,576. The Hartford Wolf Pack were founded in 1997 following the relocation of the Hartford Whalers.

For this concept, the Hartford Wolf Pack play in the AHL’s World Division in the Eastern Conference. The other teams in the World Division are the Bridgeport Islanders, the Chicago Wolves, the Cleveland Monsters, the Hershey Bears, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Utica Comets, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The Hartford Wolf Pack also hosted the Whale Bowl as part of this concept.

The Hartford Wolf Pack name comes from a name the team contest. The Binghamton Rangers relocated to Hartford in 1997 following the relocation of the Hartford Whalers of the NHL. The name is a reference to a submarine class. The branding surrounding the team name and logos is a reference to the local naval tradition. Their colors are blue, red, grey, and white. Their primary logo is a wolf head coming out of the ocean with the team name below it. Their second logo is a Wolf Pack wordmark logo. Their third logo is a submarine with a wolf head. The Hartford Wolf Pack also used a 25th anniversary logo for the 2022-23 season. Their 25th anniversary logo was the primary logo with 25 behind it and 1997-2022 below it.
