Today is the third day of Conceptober. Todays prompt is create an American Hockey League jersey concept. I have created a lot of AHL jersey concepts. I am currently in the middle of my AHL concept series. The American Hockey League is the National Hockey League’s farm league. It is like Triple-A Baseball but for the National Hockey League. The AHL has thirty two teams with all but one being affiliated with an NHL team. The AHL has been around since 1936 and since the beginning has been developing talent for the NHL.
Again I used the Wheel of Names to pick a team to do this concept for. The Toronto Marlies came up as the winning team. They are the Toronto Maple Leafs farm team. They have been around since 2005 when the Toronto Maple Leafs moved the St. John’s Maple Leafs to Toronto. Somewhat ironically the Toronto Maple Leafs ECHL affiliate is now located where the St. John’s Maple Leafs used to be. The Toronto Marlies play at the 8,100 capacity Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto. It is located just nine minutes from where the Toronto Maple Leafs play.

I have not done the Toronto Marlies yet in my American Hockey League concept series. This is kind of like a preview of what I will be doing with the Marlies. The jersey is blue and white like the Toronto Marlies and Maple Leafs home jerseys. The sleeves and bottom of the jersey are inspired by the Toronto Maple Leafs 1966/67 and 1967/68 jerseys. The Marlies have always had the same jerseys as the Maple Leafs. On the front is their white logo. It does not have any shoulder logos. On the collar is the team motto “Long Live”.
From what I can tell they have a lot less alternate and specialty or event jerseys than other teams do as well. When creating this I kind of wanted to honor their tradition of using the Maple Leafs jerseys or being inspired by them, while trying to carve out their own identity as a team. This will probably be in my AHL Concept series as their home jersey.
Here are the other concepts from my AHL concept series.
